Log house Bulrush is located in the municipality of Hattula, in the middle of Southern Finland near Kriipi’s nature reserve and the Tenhola hills. The cottage is located near excellent road connections, so it is a perfect place to spend your vacation and, at the same time, visit the biggest cities in Southern Finland. From the motorway it is only a 10 minute drive to the cottage.
Cottage Bulrush was completed in June 2007. Bulrush is located at the end of the road and close to the Tenhola hills. The nearest neighbour, cottage Waterlily, is located about 150 metres away from Kaisla. There are some trees growing in-between, so there is no straight visual contact and you can enjoy your holiday in peace.
The floor area of the cottage comprises ca. 108 m2/135m2 + a veranda area of 25 m2. The cottage has a combined kitchen and living room (equipped with a sofa to seat 5), a dining area with a big table and 8 chairs, two bedrooms downstairs, a loft, a toilet, a bathroom and a sauna with a wood-stove. Firewood and wireless internet connection (WLAN) are included in the rent of the cottage. The cottage has underfloor heating. The master bedroom has a double bed and the other bedroom have two single beds. The loft also has two single beds and in addition a sofa bed (for 2 children).
There is a gas grill on the veranda that can only be used in summertime. The cottage Bulrush is located about 25 meters from the waterfront. There is a sand beach with a flagstone path leading to the small jetty. The yard is illuminated. The view is to the north-west, straight to the lake Vanajavesi.
You are welcome to use the rowing boat, and life jackets can be found in the cottage. The shallow beach is with a muddy/sandy bottom. By the lake there is also a campfire place.
Baby equipment, such as a baby cot, a high chair, a potty and a baby guard fence to be used in the stairs are available on a request. There is a swing and a sandbox for children in the yard.
The number of people using the cottage must not exceed the number of sleeping places (6 adults +2 children).
Hämeenlinna is only16 km away (20 minutes drive), Tampere - 67 km, a 45 minutes drive, Helsinki - 116 km, a 75 minutes drive, Lahti - 90 km, a 90 minutes drive, Turku - 169 km, a two hours drive, Nearest supermarkets can be reached by car in 10 minutes (Parola 7 km) and the nearest hypermarkets - in 15 minutes (Tiiriö 14 km).
Owner’s home, the main farm house of the estate, is located 2 km away from the cottage. The cottage is very easy to reach; near excellent road connections, and only an hour drive away from the busiest airports and harbours in Southern Finland. The nearby motorway, about 1 km, may cause some traffic noise (depending of wind) on the yard of the villa.
The well-equipped guest house is available all year round. In winter, after refreshing outdoor activities you can enjoy the warmth of your own sauna. When the weather freezes, you can curl up next to the cosy fireplace and enjoy the beautiful winter landscape. In the spring, you can observe the nature springing into the life and becoming greener day by day. In the spring and all through the summer, the days will get longer and longer, and in mid-summer the sun will not go down at all. In the autumn, you can pick berries and mushrooms in the nearby forest. The autumn is also one of the best fishing seasons.
The house has its own waterfront, a row boat and a jetty by the large Vanajavesi Lake, known for its great fishing. For a request and extra cost it’s possible to have guided fishing trips (example 3 hours, minimum of 2 people/ trip). In the area there is also operating a boat taxi for an extra cost (boat fits 5 people and the pick up is from the villa’s pier). Ask for more!
Ridges, lakes, fields, forests, and marches are typical of the landscape in the Häme region. Kriipi’s island and the surrounding water areas are included in the Finnish Natura 2000 areas, network of nature protection areas. Here you can also observe a variety of water birds, such as ducks, terns, great crested grebes and swans. Deer, elks, and foxes are common in this area. At dusk, you can spot white-tailed deer moving near the cottages. The guest house is located next to the popular outdoor area Tenhola hills. On the Tenhola hills you can find exquisite hiking routes. In Finland, everybody has right to walk in a forest and pick berries and mushrooms (this is included in the statutory everyman’s rights). On the hills there are ideal possibilities for it. The berry season ranges from July to August, and mushrooms can be found from August till the end of October. The large lake Vanajavesi provides excellent possibilities for fishing all year round.
Several amusement parks and spas in the vicinity can be reached by car in an hour. One of the biggest shopping centres in Scandinavia, Ideapark, is located about 50 km (35 minutes drive) from the cottages. The nearest city (16 km) Hämeenlinna is also located by the lake Vanajavesi. Hämeenlinna is the oldest town in the interior of Finland. In Hämeenlinna you can find, for example, the Aulanko nature reserve (there you can also find the nearest spa), the Häme Castle dating back to the Middle Ages, and various interesting museums.
There are also several golf clubs in and nearby Hämeenlinna. The nearest is the Hattula Golf, which is located only 10 km from the cottages.
In winter, you can go to cross-country skiing on the Tenhola hills or skate on the ice of the lake.
The nearest downhill ski centres are Kalpalinna (30 km) and SkiSappee (50 km). A snowmobile route passes only about 200 metres from the cottage Bulrush and 300 metres from the cottage Waterlily.
It is possible to rent a motor boat, Buster S with 20 hp motor (Honda). The length of the boat is 4.58 m, the beam 1.88 m and the boat can fit four people (300 kg). The boat is equipped with a rod holder for fishing. 25 litres fuel is included in the rates. We advise to make the reservation in advance.
It is also possible to take a cruise on the lake Vanajavesi. The nearest harbour is in Hattula (Mierola), about 8 km from the cottages.
The fishing possibilities on the lake Vanajavesi are excellent. Zander is the most important fish caught in Lake Vanajavesi. Other important fish are whitefish, pike, perch, rainbow trout and bream. With some fisherman's luck, you may also catch an eel. The biggest pikes are moving in shallow waters in the spring time (from the beginning of April to mid-June) and in the autumn (from September to November). In the area there is also a company with professional fishing guides that organize fishing trips according to the customer’s wishes, ask for more!
The cottage is suitable for allergic people; therefore pets are not allowed and smoking is not allowed inside of the cottages. The number of people using the cottage must not exceed the number of sleeping places (6 adults +2 children). Tents and caravans are not permitted on the guest house premises. Final cleaning is compulsory. Customers may bring their own bedlinen or rent them for an extra cost. The guest will be required to compensate the owner for any damage caused to the cottage or its property during occupancy. Changing day is Friday. Cottage Bulrush will be at the guest’s disposal from 15.00 on the day of arrival until 11.00 on the day of departure. Customers should arrive to the cottage before 19.00. Minimal booking period is 2 days. In a high season (Summer, Christmas, New Year) minimal booking period is 1 week. The nearby situated horse stable is a private yard and it's not allowed to go to their premises if it's not otherwise agreed.
